TWMCC Holds Lecture on Religious and Cultural Coexistence in UK

  • 2025-Sep-17

The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held an online lecture, titled "Religious and Cultural Coexistence: The Role of Muslims in British Society," presented by Sheikh Muhammad Ramadan, member of the Shura Council of the Central Ahl al-Sunnah Group in the UK and abroad, within the Council's series of lectures.

During the lecture, Ramadan discussed the objectives of Islamic Shariah, stressing that they call on Muslims to practice tolerance, accept others, and seek common ground that unites all human beings.

He explained that Islam does not differentiate between people based on colour, gender, or ethnicity, citing the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) choice of Bilal ibn Rabah — who was of Abyssinian origin — to call the adhan from atop the Holy Kaaba after the conquest of Mecca.

He pointed out that diversity among people is one of God’s universal laws in creation, and that human variety represents a civilisational richness that should be approached with awareness and respect. He further emphasised that coexistence among people is an indispensable necessity, urging the strengthening of points of agreement and cooperation both among Muslims themselves and with the rest of society.

Concluding, Sheikh Ramadan called on Muslims in the UK to uphold unity and social cohesion and to engage positively with differences, highlighting that the objectives of Shariah focus on the values of diversity and coexistence, and that tolerance and acceptance of multiple cultures are a fundamental pillar in building a cohesive society based on mutual respect.
