As part of its ongoing efforts to promote a culture of peace, the World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) organised an online lecture titled 'The Message of Islam: Justice and Peace,' presented by Sheikh Thafier Najjar, President of the Islamic Council of South Africa. During the lecture, he addressed the concept of peace and its central position in Islam.

Sheikh Thafier Najjar explained that peace is one of the fundamental values in the Islamic religion, noting that the Holy Quran emphasised this value repeatedly, as the word 'Peace' appears in it 44 times, reflecting its deep presence in Islamic legislation.

He stressed that the Prophet (PBUH) made spreading peace a consistent methodology in his calling, and was keen to adopt dialogue and calm solutions to resolve disputes, thereby establishing a culture of coexistence and mutual respect.

He pointed out that the word 'Islam' itself carries connotations of peace due to its proximity in meaning and letters to the words 'Silm' and 'Salam,' noting that Allah Almighty commanded the spreading of peace among all human beings without exception.

He also cited the saying of Jesus Christ (PBUH): 'Wisdom is the light of every heart,' emphasising that embodying wisdom is a basic necessity in human behavior and in managing life affairs.

Sheikh Thafier Najjar stressed that peace represents the Muslim's slogan and identity, and that there is an urgent need today for concerted efforts and the promotion of values of tolerance, in light of the challenges and unrest witnessed by the world.

He added that Peace (As-Salam) is one of the Most Beautiful Names of Allah, which highlights the sublime status of tolerance and mercy in Islam and reflects the deep human dimension of this religion.
