TWMCC Mourns the Passing of the Islamic Philosopher and Thinker Dr. Syed Muhammad Al-Attas and Recalls His Scholarly and Intellectual Contributions

HE Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC), mourns with deep sorrow the passing of the prominent philosopher and Islamic thinker, Professor Dr. Syed Muhammad Naquib bin Ali bin Abdullah bin Muhsin Al Attas, the distinguished Malaysian scholar who devoted his life to serving Islamic thought, education, and civilisation.
The late scholar was one of the most prominent figures of contemporary Islamic thought and among the intellectuals who made profound contributions to renewing perspectives on issues of knowledge, education, and civilizational identity.
He left behind a significant scholarly and intellectual legacy through his writings, studies, and academic initiatives that sought to highlight the ethical dimension of knowledge and to promote a balanced civilizational vision that combines the authenticity of Islamic heritage with the demands of the modern age.
He was also known for his pioneering role in developing higher education institutions and his contribution to shaping generations of researchers and thinkers.
He exemplified the scholar who combined intellectual depth with dedication to the mission of knowledge, and throughout his academic career he remained a strong advocate for the role of knowledge in building individuals and serving societies.
As the TWMCC recalls the late scholar’s distinguished scholarly and intellectual contributions, HE Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi extends his sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the late’s family and to the academic and intellectual communities in Malaysia and across the Islamic world, praying that God grants him His vast mercy and admits him into His spacious Paradise.
