TWMCC Hosts Seminar on Indian Cinema and Social Harmony
- 2026-Jan-18
The World Muslim Communities Council organised a cultural seminar titled “Harmony on Screen: How Indian Cinema Fosters Tolerance and Coexistence” as part of its participation in the New Delhi World Book Fair 2026.
The seminar examined Indian cinema as a powerful cultural medium that brings together diverse social identities, traditions, and worldviews. Speakers explored how cinematic storytelling has played a significant role in promoting empathy, social understanding, and everyday coexistence within India’s pluralistic society.
Contributions by Mr. Murtaza Ali Khan, Ms. Puneet Sikka, and Ms. Suzanne Bernert highlighted how films across different Indian languages and regions have challenged stereotypes, encouraged intercommunal dialogue, and articulated shared human values beyond religious, caste, and regional divisions.
The discussion also addressed the capacity of cinema to question rigid social boundaries and to portray solidarity in moments of love, struggle, and collective aspiration—positioning film as both a social mirror and a catalyst for conversations on peace, justice, and inclusive futures.
The seminar forms part of the Council’s broader efforts to advance cultural dialogue and mutual understanding through the arts and knowledge-based initiatives in multicultural contexts.
