TWMCC Holds ‘Sacred Expressions: Mappila Art Forms as Conduits of Religious Message’ Online Ramadan Lecture

  • 2024-Mar-20

The World Muslim Communities Council held an online Ramadan lecture, titled "Sacred Expressions: Mappila Art Forms as Conduits of Religious Messages", presented by Dr. Hussain Randathani.

During the lecture, Randathani emphasised the fusion of Indian and Arab cultures in India, attributing their establishment to the migration of Muslims from Arab regions, particularly Yemen, to India.

"Today, the Muslim community is deeply rooted in Indian culture, as we are embracing Islamic traditions within Mappila culture," Randathani noted.

Additionally, he said that their art is based on the fusion of Indian and Arab art, music, and various customs.

He also pointed out the significant influence of Arabic vocabulary on the local dialect in India, shaping it as an integral part of the culture.

Furthermore, Randathani observed the growing popularity of Sufi chants accompanied by tambourines, featuring diverse melodies, some of which are in Arabic.

TWMCC is an international non-governmental organization that functions as a think tank. It supports Muslim community organizations and associations by helping them improve their operations, collaborate effectively, and adopt innovative approaches.
