TWMCC Chairman Meets Nahdlatul Ulama Head in Jakarta

HE Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC), met with His Eminence Kyai Haji Dr Yahya Cholil Staquf, Chairman of the Executive Council of Indonesia's Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), at the organisation's headquarters in the capital, Jakarta.


During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between TWMCC and Nahdlatul Ulama, particularly in promoting the values of moderation and coexistence, supporting the role of religious and community leaders in fostering social peace, and countering extremist and hate speech.


HE Dr Ali Al Nuaimi praised Indonesia's model of coexistence and pluralism, stressing that the country offers an important example of how Muslim societies can preserve their religious identity while embracing cultural and religious diversity, thereby reinforcing the values of citizenship, stability, and social peace.


He also commended Nahdlatul Ulama's historical role in promoting the values of moderation, compassion, and pluralism, affirming TWMCC’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with major Islamic institutions that have significant social and intellectual influence.


For his part, His Eminence Dr Yahya Cholil Staquf welcomed HE Dr Ali Al Nuaimi’s visit and underscored the importance of enhancing communication among Islamic institutions and exchanging expertise to develop a contemporary religious discourse that serves Muslim communities in their diverse national contexts.


At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the importance of continuing coordination and exploring future areas of cooperation to strengthen the presence of moderate Islamic discourse and support dialogue and mutual understanding among societies and cultures.
