TWMCC Holds “From Conversion to Imamate” Online Lecture

  • 2026-Apr-09

As part of the lecture series of The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC), a virtual lecture was held on Monday, 6 April 2026, titled “From Conversion to Imamate,” presented by Shaykh Taym Allah Abd al-Rahman, Imam at Harvard University in the United States

During the lecture, Shaykh Taym stated that before embracing Islam, he was not a religious person and was going through a difficult period of personal turmoil and severe confusion. He explained that in 1999, one of his friends was imprisoned, where he embraced Islam while in prison, and later contacted him and invited him to convert to Islam.

Shaykh Taym noted that he later worked as an imam in the prisons where his friend was serving his sentence, where he saw hundreds of men standing in prison yards. This strengthened his sense of responsibility to guide them toward the right path and to continue supporting them after their release, regardless of the reasons that led to their imprisonment.

Shaykh Taym further emphasized the importance of developing effective mechanisms for psychological treatment of convicted individuals and reintegrating them into society, due to its role in promoting civic values and enabling them to return to their families with positive behaviour.

He added that efforts are ongoing to support those serving sentences and reintegrate them into society by helping them obtain suitable jobs, stressing that this work is carried out in cooperation with various entities and for the benefit of all. He also pointed to strong responsiveness from relevant authorities, which support and help strengthen these efforts.
