Sheikh Dr. Salim Alwan, Secretary-General of Dar Al-Fatwa in Australia, said that the blessed month of Ramadan is the month of goodness and mercy, and the noble month in which the Holy Qur’an was revealed as guidance for people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.

During the virtual lecture titled “Ramadan: A Month of Purity of Hearts and Tranquility of Souls,” Alwan explained that “Every good deed of Adam's son is for him except fasting, which is devoted purely to Allah.”

He reiterated that the reward for fasting is known only to Allah Almighty, noting that this indicates its immense virtue. He added that the fasting person refrains from desires, food, and drink seeking the pleasure of Allah.

He also pointed out that fasting is a shield, protection and a barrier from the hell, adding: “When any one of you gets up in the morning in the state of fasting, he should neither use obscene language nor do any act of ignorance. And if anyone slanders him or quarrels with him, he should say: I am fasting.”

He further noted that “The smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the smell of musk,” adding that “ There are two occasions of joy for the observer of fast. He feels joy when he breaks the fast and he is happy when he meets Allah.”

He concluded by emphasising the virtues of the blessed month of Ramadan, saying that Ramadan is the month of repentance, piety, night prayers, spiritual retreat (i‘tikaf), charity, acts of worship, asceticism, and purification of the soul.
