As part of its Ramadan lecture series, The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) hosted Professor Adja Majiguène, Professor of Arabic Language and Literature at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar. During the virtual lecture, titled “Muslim Women in Ramadan: Balancing Roles and Integrating the Mission,” she emphasized that the holy month of Ramadan offers an exceptional opportunity for Muslim women to refine the soul and achieve a balance between their worldly responsibilities and their spiritual mission.

At the beginning of her lecture, Professor Majiguène stressed that the true essence of fasting is not limited to abstaining from food and drink, but extends to the "fasting of the limbs"—refraining from vice and forbidden acts. She underscored that Taqwa (piety/God-consciousness) is the desired fruit of this worship.

She drew particular attention to the need for women to discipline the "tongue," noting that the nature of social communication—where women may engage in conversation at higher rates than men—might increase the likelihood of verbal errors or sins. She urged women to use this holy month to train the tongue in silence, except for the remembrance of Allah and that which is beneficial.

The Senegalese academic also addressed religious duties that some may mistakenly believe are limited to men, explaining that "lowering the gaze" and committing to avoiding sins are divine obligations shared by both genders.

She concluded her speech by calling on women to seize the days of Ramadan for full ethical commitment, considering behavioral discipline, lowering the gaze, and guarding the senses as the fundamental pillars for integrating a Muslim woman’s mission during this holy month.
