The World Muslim Communities Council (TWMCC) held an online lecture, titled "Developing Islamic Sciences: A Contemporary Analytical Vision," presented by Dr Zakaria El Houbba, Researcher in Islamic Studies, University of Leuven in Belgium.

During the lecture, El Houbba explained that human beings in this era always tend to pursue their own interests, yet at the same time they need to realise the true meaning of their existence in life. He added that Allah Almighty created and honoured humankind so that they may worship Him sincerely and faithfully, and that realising this purpose helps a person follow the right path in all aspects of life.

He stressed that worship must be founded on knowledge and understanding, not on ignorance, so that a Muslim may recognise his duties and fulfill them correctly. He pointed out that purity of intention and clarity of understanding are essential conditions for drawing closer to Allah Almighty.

He also clarified that human behaviour can only be understood through knowledge, and that such knowledge is built upon logical thinking, affirming that giving priority to reason is one of the most beautiful aspects of Islam.

El Houbba concluded his remarks by noting that every person strives in life to be guided to the right path, and this striving is what is known as self-purification.
